Why donate
Your donation can help people see again and stop blindness. Here’s why it matters:
Big Problem, Big Need
Over 1 billion people worldwide don’t have the eye care they need. Without help, this number
will grow to 1.8 billion by 2050. Most of these people–90%–live in poor areas where they can’t
afford treatment.
Many can’t see because of simple problems like cataracts, refractive errors, diabetic eye
disease, and glaucoma. In India, with a population of approximately 1.46 billion (2025 estimate)
and a child population of around 437 million:
- An estimated 275 million people experience some form of vision loss, including over 9
million who are blind. - The national prevalence of vision impairment is 21.1% and blindness is 2.4%.
- Among adults ≥50 years, 93% of blindness and 97% of visual impairment are avoidable,
primarily due to unoperated cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors. - Childhood blindness prevalence ranges from 0.6–1.06 per 1,000, with 2,80,000–3,20,000
blind children nationwide; visual impairment varies from 2.05–13.6 per 1,000, higher in
poverty–stricken areas with low female literacy. - In urban slums: Studies show 2.5% blindness and 39% visual impairment (81.4% avoidable
in ≥50 years); ocular morbidities can reach high levels, with refractive errors prevalent. - Diabetic retinopathy: Affects 13.5% of those with diabetes in some studies.
- Childhood low vision in slums: 22.7% refractive errors in children aged 5–18, with 0.14% low
vision (mainly refractive amblyopia, followed by retinal causes).
Impact:
- Poverty: Hits women, elderly, and marginalized hardest
- Productivity: Glasses increase work output by 22%; surgery lifts 46% of families
economically. - Education: Children with poor vision are 2–5 times less likely to attend school.
- Health: Linked to mental health issues and higher mortality risk
In Gajendra Nagar, recent camps and limited data highlight urgent needs for door–to–door
screening and barrier analysis.
These can be fixed with check–ups and surgeries, but only if we reach them. At our Jai Bharat
Nagar Centre, we’ve helped over 11,000 people, and 1,900 children at the Children’s Eye Care
Centre–your support can help more!Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
Life–Changing Impact
Good vision gives people jobs, lets kids go to school, and helps families stay strong. In places
like Gajendra Nagar Slum, your donation can stop blindness and bring hope to thousands.
What Your Money Does
Every rupee you give pays for free eye check–ups, glasses, surgeries, and camps. It also trains
Community Vision Leaders to help their communities. Since June 2025, we’ve turned the Jai
Bharat Nagar Centre into a full–time place for this work with help from donations.
Join the Fight
With your donation, we can check 5,000 people in Gajendra Nagar in two years and help 1,000
